Session II Inspired by the Sea

Artists, writers, poets and musicians have forever been inspired by the sea. This week we looked to Matisse who was one of them. When he was older and could no longer paint he created beautiful lyrical pieces from paper that echoed the shapes and forms near his home in Nice, France. This was our starting off point for paintings, prints, coral sculptures and the wonderful mural about preserving marine life and coral reefs . We are always busy and messy so it is hard to stop to get photos of all of the creativity, especially the sculpture and painting projects, which involved a lot of process and layering to achieve the great results. The students were very patient and in between we took breaks to explore and play outside. We also made rainbows with a prism and learned about light and the color spectrum, and discussed the factors that cause colors to separate into a rainbow. Thanks to all of you for a great week and I look forward to seeing most of you and some new faces in the upcoming sessions.
