Ode To Spring

With the return of light and color, we celebrated the birds and blossoms of Spring by creating watercolors inspired by the season. We looked at the work of many styles of watercolors and concentrated on the artist John Singer Sargent, the master of light and shadow. His work is too refined and sophisticated for even the most accomplished artist to emulate, so we did a subject that was more relate able. I like to give the students lessons that provide an opportunity to input their own personality and also feel successful with the outcome, without direct comparisons to the artist. The class is getting really good at laying down backgrounds and working step by step, which requires a lot of thought and patience. I love the finished pieces.

Have a nice Spring break.
