Creating a Magical Butterfly Garden

Summer Camp I- Butterfly Gardens

The first Art Camp of the Summer was so much fun,

The young K-3 artists were so enthusiastic, and they

eagerly engaged in all of the projects. Here are some

highlights of the week.

*SCAVENGER HUNT

We began the week with a nature scavenger hunt to gather leaves for inspiration.

*CHALK PAPER

Our next project was grating colored chalk onto water and dipping paper to create textures and patterns.

*PRINTMAKING

When they were dry, we did printmaking with leaves on the paper. They continued to design and add shapes to their creations.

*PAPER MACHE

We made Paper Mache' and created forms that we covered to create animal sculptures. It is a messy process, and I was too busy to get photos, but it was fun! The weather cooled, so they were still too damp at the end of camp to paint. Something to paint at home,

OTHER PROJECTS

*HEART MOBILES

*BUTTERFLY GARDEN PAINTINGS

*BIRD PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

It was such a compatible group. They had a lot of fun exploring and creating games in the wooded area in between projects, and there was no end to their creativity.

 Week One: Cave Paintings

It has been an eventful week in our Art Literacy class. We have been all around the world.  I would like to thank all of my wonderful students for their great efforts. We began with the story of the discovery of the discovery of cave paintings in Lascaux,  France  and also looked at images from  Spain , where the oldest known cave paintings have been found,  in the cave called El Castillo. The prehistoric dots and crimson hand stencils are now the world's oldest known cave art that dates more than 40,800 years old.
